Why does my remaining tenure drop so much after a small prepayment?
In the early years of a loan, your EMI consists largely of interest. When you make a prepayment, 100% of that goes directly against the principal. Since your principal is now smaller, every future EMI suddenly pays off a slightly larger chunk of the principal, accelerating the payoff mathematically.
